HANCEVILLE – Wallace State Adult Education Director Kelley Jones has been elected president of the Alabama Adult Education Directors Association in addition to being selected to serve on the inaugural Adult Education Professional Development and Program Evaluation Advisory Committee.
Kelley JonesFree Adult Education services are among the three primary functions of the Alabama Community College System, which also includes college-credit classes and programs for Academic Transfer, and Workforce Development.
As Alabama Adult Education Directors Association President, Jones will serve a two-year appointment and be a liaison between the Chancellor’s office and state adult education leaders. She and her fellow adult education leaders will continue to foster accessible, quality, educational programs that enable students to become employable, productive and responsible citizens.
The new advisory committee, made up of adult education directors, instructors, support staff, coordinators and adult learners, is designed to focus on continuous improvement of educational services for the uneducated, underprepared and underrepresented individuals in Alabama. The committee will collaborate with the Department of Postsecondary Education (DPE), Adult Education (AED) and GED Testing Division by committee members sharing their expertise in an advisory capacity to address professional development needs for practitioners, administrators, volunteers and support staff.
“We’re excited about where we are going in adult education. During these tough economic times, it’s our responsibility to try to make a difference for those seeking assistance with employment,” Jones said. “It’s our job to provide options for people in basic to advanced training and get them back in the workforce. This takes a great deal of cooperation from many partnering agencies throughout the state. I’m pleased to be able to take a leadership role in this effort.”
