HANCEVILLE – Wallace State Community College’s Sigma Kappa Delta and Mu Alpha Theta groups recently collaborated to conduct the inaugural Academic Honor Society induction at the Burrow Center Recital Hall.

New Sigma Kappa Delta members
New Sigma Kappa Delta members were recently inducted during the inaugural induction ceremony that included new members from Mu Alpha Theta.

Sigma Kappa Delta, the college’s English honor society, and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society, welcomed more than 45 new student members at the event and some were initiated into both.
“It was a chance for two of Wallace State’s honor societies to come and celebrate together. It was nice to have students across two academic disciplines recognized, including some students who are now in both societies,” said Wallace State English Instructor Michael Salerno, a Sigma Kappa Delta sponsor. “The combined event was a success, and we hope to make it a regular occurrence.”
Students inducted into both honor societies were Christina Cook and James Clinton McCormick, both of Hanceville, Ashley Herron of Warrior and Charli Smith of Trafford.
Mu Alpha Theta inductees present at the ceremony were Ashley Brown of Baileyton, Christina Cook of Hanceville, Kayla Fromhold, Larita Nelson, Mark Nelson, Jeffrey Towns and Nikhil Patel, each of Cullman, Kelsey Jones of Lacey Springs and Cheri Seymore of Arley.
Additional new members are Tyler Bennett and Bailee Williams of Hartselle, Gavilan Brown, Matthew Meyer and Tim Zurrer, each of Hanceville, Victoria Frith of Huntsville, Weston Laney, Melody Haynes and Laura Yarbrough, each of Cullman, Nathan Marchman and Sara Shannon of Vinemont, Lauren Rickels of Remlap, Swaheb Shubair of Jacksonville and Bobby Walker of Union Grove.
New members of Sigma Kappa Delta are Kayla Annette Aaron and George “Whitewolf” Teague of Vinemont, Bethany Beasley of Addison, Kelsey Bryan of Logan, Christina Cook and Kelsey Swann of Hanceville, Lorrie Dye and Stephanie Peeples of Blountsville, Travis Eskew of Garden City, Kelli Hays of Hartselle, Elizabeth Eveland, Robert Daniel Imbusch, Melissa Sivley and Austin Wood, each of Cullman, Miranda Hogan of Cleveland, Samantha Hoggle of Warrior and J. Lane Hollis-Waller of Hayden.
Mu Alpha Theta induction candidates are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA in math classes, beginning at the MTH 112 level or higher, either as a part-time or full-time student.
Sigma Kappa Delta asks its members to carry an overall 3.3 GPA and average a ‘B’ or better in one’s English classes. Candidates must have fulfilled at least one 12-hour semester at Wallace State and successfully completed one minimum college level English course.
New Sigma Kappa Delta members will host a breakfast for storyteller Ms. Nina Reeves on April 9, in conjunction with her campus appearance during Cultural Arts Month.
