HANCEVILLE – Wallace State Community College continued its annual tradition of recognizing Earth Day, planting a pair of trees on campus this week. A number of students and employees aided in planting a dogwood on the west side of the Drafting Building and a Shumard oak near the southeast entrance of the Tom Bevill Building.
Wallace State’s Anthony Hilliard, the Horticulture/Agricultural Production Department Chair, opened Earth Day activities by explaining to those assembled at the Student Center how to properly plant a tree, including the best times of the year to do so.
After planting the new trees, the Earth Day group checked up on the trees planted last year.
Free T-shirts and snacks, including oranges and carrots, were given to students and employees participating in Monday’s activities. Earth Day activities are sponsored each year by the Wallace State Green Team.
