Wallace State’s 2015 Chancellor’s Award recipients recognized at ACCA Conference banquet

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Four Wallace State Community College employees were recently recognized as Chancellor’s Award recipients at the 2015 Alabama Community College Association (ACCA) Conference luncheon in Birmingham.
Wallace State’s nominees were Jennifer Hill, Jim Malone, Sally Warren and Kim Kahler.
Hill is Wallace State’s Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management and was the Director/Administrative Staff nominee this year. Hill has been employed at Wallace State for 23 years, beginning her career as a recruiter and also teaching speech and orientation classes. Hill was among the Wallace State employees instrumental in implementing the college’s Lion Central, a one-stop center for student enrollment services, which she now heads. Hill spent multiple years as the college’s Student Government Association (SGA) employee sponsor and also serves on many committees on campus, including the executive cabinet, the enrollment management task force and the graduation committee.
Malone is Wallace State’s Diagnostic Imaging Program Director and was the Career Faculty nominee, which includes health and technical instructors. Malone has been employed at Wallace State for eight years, previously serving as a Diagnostic Imaging instructor before heading the program in August 2011. Malone’s students have a 100 percent pass rate for the DI national registry over thelast three years, evidence of his efforts toward student success an retention. Malone has been certified through the Wallace State Master Teacher program as well as the State of Alabama Master Teacher program. He is a graduate and former Leadership Wallace State committee member, and is currently participating in the Alabama Community College Leadership Academy.
Warren is an English instructor at Wallace State and Academic Faculty nominee this year. Warren has served as full-time English instructor at Wallace State since 2010. She is Wallace State’s Common Read chairperson, leading the campus-wide reading initiative each year. She is also a Sigma Kappa Delta sponsor, a Green Team co-chairperson and an active member of the following committees: Professional Development, Scholars’ Bowl, 50thanniversary, SACSSOC and Healthy campus. Warren has served as a Learning Communities instructor since its inception and is a graduate of Leadership Wallace State and the Master Teacher program.
Kahler works in the Wallace State Business Office as the Accounts Receivable Supervisor and is this year’s Staff Member nominee. Kahler has been employed at Wallace State since 2010. She is a 2013-14 graduate of the Leadership Wallace State program and serves on the college’s Awards and Technology committees. She has also taught professional development classes for fellow employees.
The Chancellor’s Awards began 28 years ago as a way to reward and encourage those who have exemplified outstanding performance, creativity and dedicated service to their college.
Each of Wallace State’s nominees is also a recipient of the Wallace State Education Achievement Award given annually to employees who consistently demonstrate exceptional job performance beyond routine expectations in areas such as personal integrity, dependability, willingness to work with others,punctuality, efficiency, classroom/workplace innovation and creativity. These winners participate in on-campus and off-campus activities beyond usual jobexpectations including professional development, fundraising, volunteerism,continuing education and leadership.
