Light lifts Wallace State baseball in DH split with Columbia State

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State freshman pitcher Braxton Light struck out nine Columbia State batters, including five looking, in five innings Wednesday night, propelling the Lions to a 6-2 victory and doubleheader split at James C. Bailey Stadium.
Light, a righty from Southside-Gadsden, was dominant from the start, scattering a run on three hits as the Lions won the second game of the twinbill. The Lions (11-7) have won seven of their last eight games after sweeping Faulkner State in a three-game series last weekend.
Wallace State supported Light by scoring two runs in the third inning, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. Eight Wallace State hitters recorded a hit.
Sophomore Stephen Dobbs was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Cole Collins, who hit his first collegiate homer over the weekend, finished with a single and two RBIs and Maison Goodwin, Darien Prewett and Turner Vincent each had run-scoring singles. Jonathan Smith was 1-for-3 for the Lions and Kris Franklin and Gerrio Rahming each had a single and an RBI.
Zak Moon, a freshman from Grissom, pitched the final two innings for Wallace State.
Wallace State dropped Wednesday’s opener, 7-5.
Vincent cranked a two-run homer among his two hits, Dobbs doubled and Prewett, Andrew Plunkett and Lance Cleveland each singled.
Wallace State travels to Birmingham this weekend for a tournament.
