Wallace State men’s basketball hosting perennial Florida-based powers

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Beginning tonight, Wallace State’s men’s basketball team is hosting a pair of perennial National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) powers from Florida.
Chipola College, out of Marianna, Fla., visits Tom Drake Coliseum today at 7 p.m. and top-ranked Northwest Florida State College makes a visit on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
It’s believed to be the first visit to Hanceville for either school.
“We are excited to host the Panhandle conference members this weekend. Both teams bring a rich basketball tradition, and Northwest Florida State has been picked preseason No. 1 in the country,” said Wallace State men’s basketball coach John Meeks. “Both games will serve as a test for where our team is at this point in the season, but also where our conference ranks nationally with some of the NJCAA’s best.”
Chipola College, based in Niceville, Fla., has made 15 national tournament appearances, while Northwest Florida State College won the 2015 NJCAA Division I national championship.
Northwest Florida State has also made the national tournament title game in three of the past five seasons.
Wallace State’s men are 1-2 on the young season. Guard Jaylen McCoy leads the Lions with 13 points per game, while Rashawn Green is averaging 12 points.
