Wallace State’s Aviation/Flight Technology program adds flight simulator for helicopter training
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s Aviation/Flight Technology program has recently added a flight simulator for its helicopter training.
“This training device is a great asset to our program. A helicopter makes for a poor classroom because it’s vibrating and so noisy. Therefore, students can learn the basic procedures and maneuvers of helicopter control on the ground and then go transfer it into the helicopter. It also avoids risking wear and tear on the helicopters,” said Bert Mackentepe, Wallace State’s Aviation/Flight Technology program head. “You can teach on the ground and demonstrate in the air.”
Wallace State offers associate degrees in Aviation/Flight Technology and special training in helicopter/airplane pilot training. Pilots trained at Wallace State learn how to fly either airplanes and/or helicopters and are able to perform a wide variety of tasks, whether as a professional or recreational pilot.
The Aviation Flight Technology program consists of flight and ground instruction, which will qualify students for various careers in the aviation industry. Once trained at Wallace State, pilots are required to attend recurrent training and simulator checks once or twice a year throughout their career.
The helicopter flight simulator allows Wallace State students to practice their craft on the ground, no matter their skill level or expertise.
“This training device has many benefits. It can be used for the basics as a student begins the program or once they’re ready to learn about commercial flying, they can use it to land on rooftops or pinnacle markings,” Mackentepe said.
