Information sessions planned for WSCC Dental Hygiene program

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Students interested in learning about the Dental Hygiene program at Wallace State Community College can get up-to-date and comprehensive information at either of two information sessions planned over the next few months. Dental Information Sessions will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11 and Dec. 6 in Room 208 of the Health Science building. To register for the information sessions, call 256.352.8300.

Dental Hygiene is one of the most competitive of the Health Science programs at Wallace State, with more than 100 students applying to fill 30 slots each fall. The average student admitted into the program has an ACT score of 23 and a GPA of 3.5.
The application process for Fall 2018 will begin March 1, 2018, with a June 1 deadline for applications. Current and new students to Wallace State are welcome to apply. Students must meet the general admission requirement of the college, as well as those set forth by the Dental Hygiene program. Those requirements include an ACT score of 18 or higher and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants who have completed a Dental Assisting program from an ADA accredited institution, including Wallace State’s Dental Assisting program, receive one bonus point on their application.
The Dental Hygiene program is a five-semester program. Twelve credit hours of prerequisite courses must be completed prior to application to the program.
The program boasts a 90 percent graduation rate, with 80 percent of graduates obtaining employment within three months of graduation. The first-attempt pass rate for Regional Board Exam is 96% and 92% for State Board Exams.
