Cullman County Bicentennial Committee Announces Student Art Competition, Winner in Each Grade to Receive $100 Cash Scholarship Award

CULLMAN, AL — The Cullman County Bicentennial Committee is seeking artists to participate in an exhibition of local community artworks, April 24-May 24, 2018, at the Burrow Center at Wallace State Community College, in conjunction with the Making Alabama traveling exhibition.
Participants are encouraged to submit artwork based on some aspect of Alabama – its people, places, stories, symbols, flora, fauna, etc., however, the subject matter is not limited to this theme. Any imagery and subject matter which inspire participants is welcome.
Students are invited to submit drawings, paintings, multimedia works.
Age Divisions for the competition include Grades K-12, and Community College.
Eligible artists are current students in the Cullman City and County School System and home school-aged children, as well as Wallace State students. Home-schooled students should enter under their appropriate grade level. Each artist may individually submit a total of two artworks. Only original works of art will be accepted.
Each grade will be judged separately.
One 1st place winner will be selected in each grade and awarded a $100 prize. 2nd and 3rd Places will be recognized with ribbons.
Entries must be original drawings, paintings, or multimedia artworks. Each entry must be the work of only one individual. The deadline for submission of artworks is April 24, 2018. Artworks should be submitted to the Burrow Center at Wallace State (Wallace State Art Department), or to the Cullman County Museum.
All entries should be ready and suitable for display when submitted.
An Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held in the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts on Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. All winners will be notified in advance but placement will not be announced until the awards ceremony. Exhibition participants, families and the public are invited to attend.  The Bicentennial Committee requests that all artworks remain on display in the Burrow Center at Wallace State, as a complement to the Making Alabama exhibition, until May 24.
