Wallace State Singers holding auditions for “Sing, America, Sing!”

HANCEVILLE — The Wallace State Singers are gearing up for a special summer performance, and are looking for former members of the ensemble to join in.
“Sing, America, Sing!” will be a celebration of the birth of the United States and will act as a fundraiser for the Wallace State Singers’ European tour in 2019.
Auditions are planned for Thursday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Performers should bring a karaoke track for their audition. Once the cast is chosen, two weeks of rehearsals will be held starting June 18.
“Sing, America, Sing!” will be held Thursday-Saturday, July 5-7, at 7 p.m, in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre.
Tiffany Richter, director of the Wallace State choral programs, is planning a European tour for the Wallace State Singers and Concert Choir in 2019, coinciding with the culmination of the Alabama 200 celebration marking the state’s bicentennial.
In 2019, the college’s fine arts performance programs will work together to produce, “Stars Fell on Alabama: Music from the Heart of the South.” The original show to be written by Richter will highlight musicians and entertainers from Alabama, music made in Alabama and music about the state. It is this show that will be performed during the European tour, which will include a stop-over in Cullman’s city sister of Frankweiler, Germany.
“We would love to have the support of our Wallace State family, friends and community as we raise funds for our European tour through events like “Sing, America, Sing!.” Richter said. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students.”
Any student enrolled at Wallace State Community College is welcome to audition for the Wallace State Singers, no matter their major. The next round of auditions for students wishing to join the singers in Fall 2018 will be held Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Students should bring a CD accompaniment and a change of clothes for the dance portion of the audition.
