HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Linda Cornelius took a chance that paid off with a first-place finish in the second Ice Cream Making contest hosted by the Wallace State Lifelong Learning Institute (WaLLi).
“I wanted to do something different,” said Cornelius of her decision to make – for the first time – a recipe for Tutti Fruitti Ice Cream with Pecans. “It was a pig in poke. I didn’t know what it would turn out like.”
It turned out to be the favorite of the six ice creams submitted for judging, with the classic “just plain vanilla” from Wanda Creel earning second place and the Chocolate Chip with Almond by Linda Pearson earning third place. Other entries included a mystery flavor most agreed was coffee, peanut butter and peppermint.
Below is the recipe for the Tutti Fruitti Ice Cream.

3 ripe bananas, mashed
1 c. maraschino cherries
