Wallace State volleyball’s Erica Baker named NJCAA honorable mention All-American for second consecutive year
HANCEVILLE – Wallace State volleyball sophomore Erica Baker has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I honorable mention All-American for the second year in a row.
Baker, a Hazel Green grad, led the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) this season in hitting percentage (.518) and kills (412) and was third with 117 blocks, also earning her league player of the year recognition for the second consecutive season.
“Erica is my first two-time All-American, which is a great honor to her and the program. Erica’s hard work and dedication has been vital to our team winning the last two conference regular season and tournament championships. Erica is also a great student, with a 3.65 GPA,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel. “I’m very proud of Erica for what she represents for our program. She is exactly the type of student-athlete we strive to recruit at Wallace State to keep our tradition going. Erica and the four other sophomores (Jessica Coombs, Bekah Myers, EA Shaver and Maegan Belcher) will be missed because of their great leadership on and off the court. They have meant so much to our school and program. We are very proud of them.”
Wallace State finished 33-8 in 2012, winning the program’s fifth consecutive regular-season championship and fourth state tournament title in a row.
Baker was a part of 75 wins in two seasons, compiling 819 kills, 238 blocks and 107 digs during her impressive career with the Lions. She plans to play at Jacksonville State next season.
Wallace State has produced an honorable mention selection the last four years. Baker and Lesley Bemis each accomplished the feat in 2011, Taulise Dunklin in 2010 and Cassie Daniels in 2009.
