Wallace State Softball OF Katie Gentle named OC NJCAA Player of the Week

Katie GentleHANCEVILLE – Wallace State sophomore outfielder Katie Gentle has been named the OC National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Player of the Week for her impressive work during a March 11-17 stretch.
Gentle hit .667 (14 for 21) last week with six doubles, a homer, 10 RBIs, 10 runs scored and four stolen bases, lifting the No. 10 Lions to wins in six of seven games at the ACCC Crossover tournament in Montgomery.
The Hartselle graduate has put together a stellar sophomore season thus far, hitting a whopping .507 with four homers, 24 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
As a freshman, Gentle hit .342 with six homers and 39 RBIs as the Lady Lions won their fifth state tournament championship in six seasons and finished third in the nation.
Wallace State, the 2008 national champion, travels to Alabama Southern on Saturday. The Lady Lions (23-6) return home April 9 to play Gadsden State.
