Wallace State to Hold GED Graduation Next Thursday; Sen. Paul Bussman Keynote Speaker
HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State Community College will celebrate the accomplishments of 225 individuals earning their GED on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Alabama State Senator, Dr. Paul Bussman, will be the keynote speaker for the event.
Bussman, a dentist in Cullman, is currently serving his first term in the state Senate. As a senator, he continues a long commitment to education and public service, having served as a volunteer and leader of numerous committees and organizations in Cullman. Bussman was the first president and organizer for the “Volunteers in Public Schools” program, a mentoring program for at-risk elementary children throughout Cullman County. He helped to establish the Good Samaritan Health Clinic, having served as a past board member and providing free dental care to clients of the clinic. He is also a past Board member and volunteer of Habitat for Humanity and the Alabama Judicial Systems’ Juvenile Conference Committee. He has also held voluntary roles as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the Cullman Regional Medical Foundation, Cullman Kiwanis Club and Leadership Cullman County Class of 2000, among other organizations.
Dr. James Bumpus, educational coordinator for The Foundry Farm Recovery Center in Cullman, will be the featured soloist at the ceremony. Wallace State offers free adult education classes at The Foundry and other sites in Cullman, Winston, Morgan and Blount Counties.
All students who earn a GED through Wallace State receive a scholarship for one free college-credit class. Four additional scholarships will be awarded during the graduation ceremony.
The graduation ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theater, located at the Student Center.
