Wallace State baseball loses to Southern Union in ACCC tournament quarterfinal
HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s baseball team lost to Southern Union 6-4 in a quarterfinal game Monday at the Alabama Community College Conference/Region 22 tournament in Ozark.
Wallace State (29-22-1) maintained an early 2-0 lead after two innings, but Southern Union rallied for a four-run third inning and extended it to 5-3 by the fifth.
Sophomore catcher Andrew Dennis had a pair of RBI singles for the Lions, Jeremiah Tullidge added a run-scoring hit and Wayne Carrell contributed an RBI on a fielder’s choice.
Izaac Yarbrough was the losing pitcher for Wallace State, allowing four runs in three innings. Alex Hegner worked four innings of relief and gave up a pair of runs.
Wallace State plays L.B. Wallace in an elimination game Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. The Lions beat L.B. Wallace 8-7 in 11 innings in an opening-round game Saturday.
