HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State Community College recently had two deans graduate from the Alabama Community College Leadership Academy.
Jimmy Hodges and Lisa German are the college’s latest employees to complete the academy, which was established in 2000 and co-sponsored by the University of Alabama Colleges of Continuing Studies and Education in cooperation with the Alabama Community College System, the University of Alabama System and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.
The Academy’s mission is to prepare community college leaders by enhancing their leadership and management skills for an environment of change and to promote active partnership within postsecondary education. Participants are selected for their demonstrated leadership skills, active involvement in their institution and a willingness to invest the time, effort and energy required for the program.
Hodges was named Wallace State’s Dean of Applied Technologies in October 2011 after spending two years as the college’s Drafting and Design Department chairperson. Before joining Wallace State, Hodges was a drafting instructor at Earnest Pruett Center of Technology in Hollywood, Ala.
In his role as Dean, Hodges plans and coordinates all aspects of the instructional program for the Applied Technologies Division, including setting goals, guiding curriculum and course offerings and developing policies. He leads his faculty in the achievement of instructional objectives, assuring that programmatic and regional accreditation criteria and standards are met. Many of Wallace State’s technical programs have 100 percent job placement.
German has served as Wallace State’s Dean of Health Sciences since 2009. She oversees 19 different majors, and the largest health science division in the Alabama Community College system. She ensures that the highest educational standards are met and that Wallace State complies with the special accreditation demands of each program area. Her departments boast outstanding licensure rates.
Wallace State is ranked among the “Top 50 Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences” in the United States by Community College Week.
