Alabama State Board of Education member Tracy Roberts visits Wallace State Community College

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College was privileged to host a first-term Alabama State Board of Education Board member Traci Roberts for her first visit to campus on Tuesday.
Roberts, a District 1 member, was joined on campus by State Sen. Paul Bussman R-Cullman, Rep. Mac Buttram, R-Cullman, and Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Cullman.
After meeting with the Wallace State Executive Cabinet, Roberts was introduced to various technical programs and initiatives being implemented on campus. Roberts toured Wallace State’s Welding, Machine Tool Technology/CNC/Tool and Die and Diesel Mechanics programs and the Advanced Visualization Center, where she learned about the college’s state-of-the-art technological facility for teaching and learning.
Wallace State’s Career Coaches followed with a demonstration about the college’s efforts to move students into the workforce through defined pathways, and Roberts also visited the Burrow Center, touring the museum and recital hall and learning about the college’s emphasis in cultural outreach to the community as well as the quality of the college’s academic transfer and dual enrollment programs.
Roberts shared lunch at Wallace State with the legislative delegation assembled.
Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics deemed Roberts’ visit an important day for the college.
“The Alabama Community College System is crucial to economic and workforce development in the state of Alabama.  Mrs. Roberts had an opportunity to tour some of the high demand and very costly career technical programs that grow the workforce in our area.  She was enthused to hear about the impact of dual enrollment and early college opportunities for students in this area, and the tremendous benefits of career coaching in our community colleges,” said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics. “We were excited to highlight the high quality of our academic transfer and allied health programs as well, including the fact that Wallace State is one of only two community colleges in the nation that is an All Steinway School and that we are consistently among the top 50 associate degree producers in health professions in this nation.”
Roberts’ district covers Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Conecuh, Covington, Butler and Crenshaw Counties.
