Moss named 2014 Miss Wallace State
HANCEVILLE — Catee Moss, a paralegal student and social work major at Wallace State Community College was crowned the 2014 Miss Wallace State Sunday afternoon on the Hanceville campus.
Moss, 20, is the daughter of Cristy and Paul Jeter of Hayden and Richard Moss of Andalusia. She was also named the winner of the swimsuit portion of the pageant. A preliminary for the Miss American Organization, Moss will compete in June at the Miss Alabama pageant at Samford University.
Tahauny Cleghorn, 20, of Cullman, was named the first alternate and tied in the talent portion with Brittany Robinson, 21, of Sylacauga, who was named the second alternate. Andrea Micelli, 20, of Gotha, Fla., was named the third alternate and Casey Capps, 20, of Bremen, was named the fourth alternate.
As Miss Wallace State, Moss receives a scholarship for tuition and fees to Wallace State for one year. All contestants received a cash scholarship.
Moss was crowned by 2013 Miss Wallace State Rebecca Long, who said one of her most memorable moments during her reign came in December at the conclusion of a Christmas parade she was in. With a good amount of candy left to give out, Long said she and her fellow parade participant decided to walk back toward the parade route and give the candy out to children still lining the streets.
At one point, she noticed a small boy inside a vehicle tapping on the window to get her attention. She spoke with him and gave him some candy. When she saw the child shortly after the parade he ran up to her and gave her a hug. The boy’s mother told her how much Long’s short visit meant to the child, who was sick and unable to get out in the cold weather to catch the candy thrown from floats.
“And I just gave him a Tootsie Roll,” Long said. “That reminded me of how even the smallest act of kindness can mean so much.”
The new Miss Wallace State hopes to be a role model to others and to encourage those she comes in contact with that they can accomplish anything they would like to do. Your True You is Moss’s platform, which she hopes will encourage others to set goals and do what is needed to meet those goals, no matter what obstacles life puts in their way. “If you work hard you can achieve those goals, no matter what,” she said.
Sunday’s crowning was an example of that. The week before, Moss said she competed in another pageant in which she didn’t do as well. “I bombed on everything,” she said. “To be able to bounce back today was a major blessing.
“I’m excited to get to compete at Miss Alabama and to represent Wallace State.”
