Deutsch guest speaker for Wallace State Earth Day event

 
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Dr. Bill Deutsch, professor emeritus at Auburn University and founder of Alabama Water Watch, will be the guest speaker during Wallace State Community College’s Earth Day events on April 22, sponsored by the Green Team. Deutsch is a researcher with Auburn University’s School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences and recently returned from working on a water project in Kenya.
Deutsch will speak at 11 a.m., in Science Lecture Hall 219 in the college’s new School of Nursing and Center for Science. As one of the top water conservationists in the world, Deutsch will speak about water conservation globally and locally.
Dr. Bill Moss, Director of Student Development at Wallace State and a member of the Green Team, said he expects students and the visiting public will come away from Deutsch’s presentation appreciating the importance of our water sources and remind us of our responsibility to protecting them.
Furthermore, Moss hopes the audience will depart with a greater understanding of how people can inadvertently have negative impacts on our water sources, noting that even the smallest changes can help protect this vital component of our environment.
“Water is finite resource and we all need water,” Moss said. “Through stewardship we can make a difference.”
The Alabama Water Watch is a volunteer organization that works toward protecting our water sources. Its volunteers monitor the water quality of all the major river basins of the state, with a mission to improve both water quality and water policy.
The first 70 students attending the April 22 event will receive a ticket redeemable for a free T-shirt following the event, when a free pizza lunch will be served in the lobby.
