Wallace State sophomores Rosa Lee Aderhold, Levi Ponder recognized at 2014 All-Alabama Academic Team banquet
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College sophomores Rosa Lee Aderhold and Levi Ponder were each recognized last week at the All-Alabama Academic Team Scholars banquet held at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery.
The All-Alabama Academic Team program started in 1995, honoring some of the most distinguished academic scholars and leaders within the Alabama Community College System (ACCS). The All-Alabama Academic Team Foundation conducts the annual banquet in association with the ACCS and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Aderhold, a 2012 Hayden High graduate, maintains a 3.9 GPA at Wallace State and is set to graduate next month with an associate degree in general studies. Aderhold plans to transfer in the fall to UAB, where she will pursue a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management.
Ponder, a 2012 Vinemont High graduate, also sustains a 3.9 GPA at Wallace State and will graduate in May with a business administration degree.
“We have an enormous sense of pride in all of our student body, but those who excel academically demonstrate that they have the drive and ambition to do anything they set their mind to. Rosa (Aderhold) and Levi (Ponder) both have demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence. We’re both so proud of them and commend them on their academic achievements,” said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics.
Also attending the banquet from Wallace State were Vice President Dr. Tomesa Smith; Jimmy Hodges, Dean of Applied Technologies; Brandon Smith and Stacey Sivley, both math instructors and Phi Theta Kappa co-sponsors; and Tad Parker of Enrollment Management.
ACCS Chancellor Mark Heinrich and respective college presidents presented medallions to each student along with Ella Bell, the Alabama State Board of Education President Pro Tem, and Jackie Screws, an All-Alabama Academic Team Planning Committee Member.
Ponder was also named one of only 50 Gold Scholars among qualified candidates across 38 states, standing out among more than 1,700 applicants. As a Gold Scholar recipient, Ponder earns a $1,500 for the fall semester and will be recognized for that achievement at the Phi Theta Kappa National Convention on Friday, April 26 in Orlando, Fla.
