Wallace State hosts 2014 Student Leadership Institute
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College hosted the annual Student Leadership Institute conference on Thursday at the college’s School of Nursing and Center for Science.
The theme of this year’s event was “Leadership Drive In” as approximately 70 students from five different Alabama community colleges learned about various leadership traits through team building exercises and group projects, mixing students from different colleges in order to enhance their networking skills.
Students from Wallace State, Bevill State, Jeff State, Northwest Shoals CC and Northeast Alabama Community College were represented at SLI.
Wallace State Success Coach Sharon Horton was one of the day’s presenters, instructing students on a True Colors personality test. Students selected particular qualities and characteristics to best describe themselves and were assigned either orange, green, gold or blue to best fit their personality.
SLI participants also enjoyed fun sessions set aside to get to know each other as individuals and as groups. The day’s main project was for students to team up with those of similar personality traits and produce a short video.
The students representing Wallace State at the 2014 SLI were Brennan Crabtree of East Limestone; Tyra Caudle, Hazel Green; Makayla Smith, Lexington; Haven Albright, Lexington; Hannah Black, Arab; Hannah Vest, North Sand Mountain; Morgan Smith, Cullman; Seth Fuller, Vinemont; Warren Davison, Center Point; Esther Chaney, Joppa, Bennett Wilson, Newberry, S.C., Jacob Barrett, Rocky Mount, N.C. and Xavier Mills of Greenville, N.C.
