Decatur’s Emily Davis crowned Miss Wallace State 2015
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Emily Davis, a sophomore in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Wallace State Community College, Hanceville, earned the title of Miss Wallace State 2015 Sunday night in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre.
Davis, of Decatur, won a $300 cash scholarship, plus a renewable one-year scholarship to Wallace State. She will move on to compete in the Miss Alabama pageant in June at Samford University.
The 19-year-old’s platform is Love Your Soul, a program created to bring awareness to and prevention of eating disorders and low self-esteem. “I actually had an eating disorder and I overcame that,” Davis said of the motivation behind her platform. “I want to teach other young girls how to overcome that, too.”
One of her goals as Miss Wallace State is to create a peer-mentoring program in area high schools. “I plan on going out to local high schools in Cullman and Hanceville and creating a sisterhood club, so the senior girls can mentor freshman girls, and tie that in with my platform.”
Davis is the daughter of Nancy and Ronnie Davis. She was crowned by Miss Wallace State 2014 Catee Moss. Miss Alabama Caitlin Brunell served as mistress of ceremonies for the event.
Kersten Terry of Trinity was named first runner-up, winning at $275 cash scholarship. Second runner-up Autumn Brooks, of Somerville, won a $250 cash scholarship. She was also declared the winner of the talent competition. Bethany Dailey of Henagar won the swimsuit competition.
