Wallace State student Jeffrey Dingler earns scholarship from 2015 New York State Summer Writers Institute
HANCEVILLE, Ala. –Wallace State student Jeffrey Dingler has been selected to receive a scholarship from the prestigious 2015 New York State Summer Writers Institute.
Dingler, a liberal arts major from Morris, was chosen among elite company. He is one of only 51 students across the United States to earn the scholarship and the lone community college representative. Many of Dingler’s counterparts at the institute will be from some of the most elite public and private colleges and universities in the nation, including Stanford, Columbia University, Williams and Swarthmore. Approximately 300 applications were received for the scholarship.
Dingler, 28, is a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School.
The New York State Writers Institute was established in 1984 by award-winning novelist William Kennedy at the University of Albany (N.Y.). The 29th annual institute will be held June 29 – July 24 on the campus of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, and will feature creative writing workshops in fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Faculty members at the institute will include prominent writers, including winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
