Wallace State instructor Leigh Ann Courington named recipient of John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award

HANCEVILLE, ALA. –  Wallace State Community College history instructor Leigh Ann Courington has been named a recipient of the John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award.
Courington, who has taught full-time at Wallace State since 1993,  was recognized earlier this year for her outstanding contribution to leadership, teaching and learning — the attributes directly tied to being a Roueche Excellence Award winner.
“I was very surprised to win the award. Teaching and interacting with our students and seeing them learn and enjoy history is the reward for me,” Courington said.
The Roueche award is presented to college employees annually by the League for Innovation in the Community College, a consortium of more than 750 community colleges and universities worldwide.
Wallace State is a member of the League of Innovation, and Courington was nominated for the recognition by colleague Terri McGriff-Waldrop, an instructor in Wallace State’s Business Program.
The League of Innovation established the John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Awards in 2012 in recognition of both individuals who have served as leaders and teachers in the community college system for more than 35 years.
At Wallace State, Courington teaches United States History I and II and Western Civilization I and II.
