HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Miss Wallace State 2015 Emily Davis is competing for the title of Miss Alabama this week at Samford University in Birmingham.
Davis is a sophomore at Wallace State and plans to be an educator. The Decatur native is competing against dozens of women in the 2015 Miss Alabama Pageant, with the winner advancing to the Miss America Pageant. They are all competing for a share of more than $1 million in cash and in-kind scholarships.
Preliminary competitions will be held Tuesday through Friday of this week, before the final competition on Saturday. The public may attend preliminary and final competitions Wednesday through Saturday. The preliminary events include the talent, swimsuit/onstage question, and evening wear competitions. The finalists will be announced during Saturday’s final competition.
The contestants are divided into three groups, Mu, Alpha and Sigma, with each rotating among the competitions. Davis is the fifth contestant overall and in the Mu competition group. Their schedule includes interviews on Tuesday morning, the talent competition on Wednesday, the swimsuit/onstage question event on Thursday, and the evening wear competition on Friday.
The Miss Alabama Pageant is a part of the Miss America Organization and provides scholarships to its participants as well as helping to create a foundation of self-confidence that last a lifetime. Participants develop interview skills, build self-esteem and learn commitment from a process of self-evaluation that prepares them for future challenges and pursuits.
The Miss Alabama program encourages community service, with each contesting choosing a platform that promotes awareness, education or action related to an issue of importance. Davis’s platform is Love Your Soul, a program created to bring awareness to and prevention of eating disorders and low self-esteem.
Davis is the daughter of Nancy and Ronnie Davis.
Tickets for the Miss Alabama pageant preliminary and final events will be available at the Wright Center box office at Samford University, which will open at 6:15 each night of the competition.
