WSCC Future Foundation scholarship application process moves to online format
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The process of applying for scholarships through the Wallace State Community College Future Foundation is getting a little bit easier. The entire process is completely online for current and prospective students to the college.
Instead of compiling piles of papers and filling out the applications by hand, students can complete the process on a computer and upload all of their required documents to accompany the application.
“Having an online application process for our scholarships just makes sense,” says Suzanne Harbin, Director of Advancement at Wallace State Community College. “It gives the students the opportunity to fine-tune their application over a period of time, saves them the hassle of collecting paperwork and streamlines the process for everyone.”
The Wallace State Future Foundation exists as a funding resource for qualified students who may have exhausted or can’t apply for other traditional sources of financial aid, such as Pell Grants. For example, Dual Enrollment students do not qualify for traditional sources of financial aid, but can apply for scholarships through the Future Foundation.
The application process begins at the Future Foundation website, www.wsccfuturefoundation.org. Click on the Scholarships link and choose the appropriate Apply Now link. One link is for students currently enrolled at Wallace State and the other is for prospective students. Current students will use their Wallace State email username and password to log in. Prospective students will set up a username (do not use spaces) and a password. They will receive an email confirming their username and password.
Currently enrolled students will need to know their WSCC ID number (W-number). Communication about scholarships will be sent to the email address provided by the student. If that address has changed or changes in the future, please update that information, as this is how the Foundation will get information to you about scholarships.
Students can review the available scholarship for the current awards cycle by clicking on the scholarships tab at the left of the screen.
The program will automatically save the information provided, allowing the student to start and stop the application process at his or her convenience. The student may edit their application until the application deadline. A list of deadline schedules is available on the main scholarship page. The next deadline for some Future Foundation scholarships is Nov. 15.
Once all the steps are completed, the “Submit” button will turn yellow and allow the student to submit an application. Once an application is submitted, the student will automatically be applied for all scholarships for which he or she is eligible.
Hard copies of Future Foundation scholarship applications will no longer be accepted. Wallace State has numerous computer labs that can be utilized for the process, including one in Lion Central in the James C. Bailey Building.
The main Future Foundation scholarship page at www.wsccfuturefoundation.org/scholarships includes documents for “Things to Know Before You Apply” and “Frequently Asked Questions.”
Wallace State Community College also offers scholarships, such as the President’s Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship, Performing Arts Scholarships, Allied Health and Nursing Scholarships, Career/Technical Scholarships, IRAQI Operation Family Shield Tuition Waiver, etc. Get more information about those scholarships and download and application at www.wallacestate.edu/financial-ad/wscc-scholarships.
The application deadline for Wallace State scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year is Feb. 15, 2016. All applications should be received at Wallace State in or postmarked on or before that date.
For Wallace State and Future Foundation scholarships as well as other sources of financial aid, students must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be accessed through the Financial Aid section of the Wallace State website.
