Wallace State student Jordan Johnson named a Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar, earning $1,000 scholarship

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State student Jordan Johnson has been selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as a Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar.
Johnson, a 2014 Hartselle graduate, was also recently crowned Miss Wallace State 2016, which earned her a one-year scholarship at Wallace State valued at $5,000. The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise award is also for Johnson’s benefit at Wallace State.
Johnson, 19, is very active on campus, serving as a math tutor for 15 hours a week. She’s also part of Wallace State’s Student Government Association (SGA) and a Phi Theta Kappa member.
“Coming to Wallace State has been a fantastic decision, and this Phi Theta Kappa scholarship helps me get through college even more. Any financial assistance is a relief,” Johnson said. “I’m honored to be selected to receive the Coca-Cola scholarship.”
When her Wallace State education is complete, Johnson plans to transfer to the University of Mississippi and enroll in geological engineering.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship isn’t the first one to be bestowed upon Johnson. Over the past two years, she’s also earned a Wallace State Academic Excellence Scholarship, assistance from the Hartselle Scholarship Foundation, a Sample scholarship from Lew B. Orthodontics in Decatur and the Stuart Moldaw scholarship.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of the Promise Scholarship Program provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in PTK Society programs.
Phi Theta Kappa, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, U.S. territorial possessions and eight sovereign nations. More than three million students have been inducted into PTK since its founding in 1918, with approximately 134,000 students inducted annually.
