ACCS CELEBRATES NATIONAL CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH
Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Community College System joins other educational institutions across the nation this month in celebration of national Career and Technical Education (CTE) MonthTM. In recognition of the month, ACCS Chancellor Dr. Mark Heinrich today visited the campus of Trenholm State Community College, where he was accompanied by several of the college’s students as he signed a resolution designating February 2016 as Career and Technical Education Month for the Alabama Community College System.
The national theme for this year’s celebration is Opportunities for Career Success! CTE Month provides career and technical programs across the country an opportunity to demonstrate how these programs make students college and career ready and prepares them for high-wage, high-demand career fields.
“We are all aware of the continuing need in our state for a well-prepared, highly skilled workforce,” commented Heinrich. “We are proud of the outstanding work that our two-year colleges do in helping to successfully prepare students for the high-skill, high-wage jobs we continue to see coming to our state and are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize these efforts during Career and Technical Education Month,” Heinrich added.
“As we partner with business and industry throughout the state, our career and technical education programs are investing in students and providing them with the latest technology and skills that will prepare them to become successful employees and future leaders.”
Last year, close to 46,000 students were enrolled in career and technical education programs offered through the Alabama Community College System and its colleges. Additionally, more than 10,500 career technical degrees and certificates were awarded.
Next month, ACCS will join with the American Technical Education Association to host the 53rd Annual National Conference on Technical Education, Heinrich said. The national conference, which attracts hundreds of postsecondary technical educators from across the country, is scheduled for March 9-11, 2016, in Orange Beach.
