Wallace State baseball splits doubleheader against Snead State, remaining at top of ACCC North standings
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State baseball continues its weekend series against Snead State in Boaz on Sunday after splitting a doubleheader against the Parsons at James C. Bailey Stadium on Friday night.
Wallace State sophomore ace Garrett Suchey went 6 1/3 innings in the nightcap, limiting the Parsons to one earned run on five hits in a 3-2 victory. He struck out eight Snead State batters, helping the Lions (22-12, 7-3 Alabama Community College Conference) stay atop the conference standings.
Will Eiland, an Auburn High grad, recorded the final two outs for Wallace State, notching his first save.
Andrew Plunkett went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Wallace State, Cole Collins doubled and scored, Mason Goodwin singled and scored and Stephen Dobbs scored a run.
Wallace State dropped the opener, 8-4.
The Lions scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Collins drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Dobbs golfed a three-run homer to left field two batters later. Dobbs finished with two hits, including the homer.
Turner Vincent had a pair of hits for the Lions, Lance Cleveland singled and scored, Brad Norman added a single and Darien Prewett had an infield single.
Wallace State opened conference play two weeks ago by sweeping Calhoun. The Lions split a four-game set with Lawson State last weekend.
