Wallace State’s Student Support Services group visits Chattanooga, Tenn., as part of annual Educational Excursion
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s TRIO/Student Support Services students recently visited Chattanooga, Tenn., as part of its annual spring Educational Excursion.
Over the two-day, guided trip, the group visited the Tennessee Aquarium, the Battles of Chattanooga Electric Map and Museum at the top of Lookout Mountain, Rock City, the Pont Park Visitor Center and the Hunter’s Museum of American Art – located on an 80-foot bluff on the edge of the Tennessee River.
They also rode “America’s Most Amazing Mile” on the incline railway to Lookout Mountain and enjoyed a narrated tour of Chattanooga’s Riverfront and Maclellan Island and the Chattanooga Ducks – an authentic renovated WWI amphibious tour bus.
Wallace State students attending the trip were Kayla King of Altoona; Dorothy Collins and Drennen Meadows, Cullman; Kathrine Koeber, Falkville; Benny Pettit, Hanceville; KeVun Young, Hoover; Morelia Tinajero, Horton; Charles Dylan Robertson, Locust Fork; Olivia Henry, Johnny Piceno and Keaton Jones, Oneonta; Amanda Marie Pearson, Sylacauga, and James Allred and Hunter Rusk of Vinemont.
SSS has visited other historic Southern cities in recent years, including, Birmingham, Montgomery, Atlanta and Memphis, Tenn.
Wallace State’s Student Support Services (SSS) is part of the federal TRIO program that offers academic assistance to 190 students on campus. The program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.
