Wallace State’s Applied Technologies Division hosting inaugural Signing Day on April 26

HANCEVILLE, ALA. –  Wallace State Community College’s Applied Technologies Division is ready for its incoming students to put pen to paper by hosting an inaugural Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day on Tuesday, April 26 at the Wallace State School of Nursing/Center for Science Building.
Similar to an athletics program hosting a signing day for its incoming recruiting class, Wallace State’s Applied Technologies Division wants to give its incoming students an opportunity to be celebrated and recognized for their commitment to the college.
“Individuals attending will sign a document stating they intend to enroll in Wallace State either in Fall 2016 or an upcoming semester and fulfill their commitment to attend one of our programs that is a high-demand, high-paying field,” said Wallace State Dean of Applied Technologies Jimmy Hodges. “We want to give these students the recognition they deserve.”
The signing event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and each individual signing the letter of intent will receive a Wallace State hat, be treated to lunch and have the opportunity to enjoy a departmental tour. The students’ families and friends are also invited to the event.
The document an individual will sign on April 26 states: “I, the undersigned student, understand that with this Letter of Intent I am occupying one of the very limited training openings in this technology education program and I am committed to successful completion of this program. I understand I will be trained to work in a highly-technical occupation and I will graduate workplace ready.”
Wallace State’s signing day will coincide with the nationally-recognized Reach Higher Initiative being celebrated across the country on April 26, which is encouraging students to complete their education past high school, whether at a professional training program, a community college or four-year college or university.
After the inaugural event, Hodges plans to host a technical signing day each February in acknowledgment of National Career Technical Education (CTE) Month.
