HANCEVILLE, AL—Students at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville were recognized for their achievements at the college’s recent Awards Night Ceremony. Awards for campus leadership, scholastic achievement, transfer scholarships, and division honors were among those presented at the ceremony.
“We celebrate the achievements of all of our students, and this year is especially wonderful because this is our 50th Anniversary – 50 years of excellence at Wallace State,” said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Hawsey Karolewics. “I want to congratulate each and everyone of you. You have shown character, drive, perseverance and commitment to excellence. You are the most important reason for our existence.”
The night’s top honor, the President’s Cup, went to Sarah EllenBattles of Hartselle. This award is presented to the student who most completely demonstrates academic excellence, service to the college and community, leadership, courage, perseverance, and all those qualities that make a student well rounded.
Battles has played softball for two seasons at Wallace State and played for the volleyball team as a freshman. She is outstanding student, in both Phi Theta Kappa, and Sigma Kappa Delta honor societies, and with a 4.0 GPA throughout her career at Wallace State. A second baseman, she hit two homeruns and made the All-Tournament Softball team at the Conference Championship. She has been a leader on the court, on the field and in the classroom. She will be transferring to Auburn on scholarship this fall.
