Wallace State-Oneonta campus experiencing strong fall registration numbers
ONEONTA, ALA. – The inaugural fall semester at the Wallace State-Oneonta campus is shaping up to be a momentous one.
With fall classes scheduled to begin on Wednesday, courses are filling up quickly in Oneonta with fall semester enrollment having greatly exceeded expectations.
“We are excited about our enrollment and have great numbers so far. People tend to look at the fall semester as a new beginning, and we are glad to be part of the journey. The fall will mark the first time some of our students have set foot in a college class,” said Kelley Jones, the Wallace State-Oneonta Director. “I believe our community, media and social media efforts have been very effective at making people aware of the good things we are doing here.”
Jones added that students have enrolled at the Oneonta site from cities outside of Blount County, including from Pinson and Trussville.
Late registration at both campuses continues through Tuesday, Aug. 23 with tuition and fees due daily.
Students can register for classes online at http://www.wallacestate.edu/register-now.
Wallace State-Oneonta, which opened its doors on May 26, is offering 30 courses this fall after a limited summer schedule. Students have seven different English and math courses to choose from, and classes are also available in biology, business education, computer science, economics, emergency medical services, engineering technology, history, music appreciation, orientation, psychology and speech. Fall classes in Oneonta are offered day, evening and online.
“If a student is interested in a class that’s at full capacity, we’ll make sure to find them a spot, whether it’s referring them to an online class or other options,” Jones said.
In Blount County, Wallace State also offers evening classes at off-campus sites at Hayden and J.B. Pennington High Schools.
Jones said the Oneonta campus is also excited about the dual enrollment opportunities it will present high school students for the first time this fall.
The Wallace State-Oneonta site is located off Highway 75 at 728 2nd Ave. E.
