UAB to provide two presidential full-tuition scholarships to Wallace State students through joint admission partnership

HANCEVILLE, ALA. –  The University of Alabama at Birmingham has expanded its Joint Admission Program partnership with Wallace State Community College and four other Alabama community colleges to include the addition of UAB Presidential Full Tuition Scholarships for two students from each partner school, continuing the institution’s commitment to attracting top Alabama students.
The scholarships are renewable annually, and Wallace State will select two students to receive the awards every year.
“UAB and our community college partners are committed to providing talented students throughout Alabama the access and opportunity to realize their fullest potential,” said Tyler Peterson, executive director of Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships at UAB. “These additional scholarships will play a huge role in continuing to attract some of the top students from our state’s two-year system. As we know, rising costs nationwide have been a barrier for students in their decision to attend a particular school. UAB is committed to making college affordable for these outstanding students. We have been fortunate to have a great partnership with our Joint Admission schools, and these new awards are an additional step to supporting their success.”
The students selected for the scholarships will have an opportunity to further their education through UAB’s Joint Admissions Program, launched in 2013. The program provides eligible students access to a wealth of multicampus resources, mentorships and scholarship funds.
Students who are not immediately eligible for traditional UAB admission can participate in a joint enrollment with Bevill State, Gadsden State, Jefferson State, Lawson State and Wallace State-Hanceville. While enrolled in a partner community college, the student will pursue an associate degree and have access to UAB facilities, libraries and campus events. Students also have access to a UAB admissions counselor on-site at their community college, who will help ensure that they meet the requirements necessary to transfer to UAB. Students who transition to UAB successfully and maintain eligibility receive $2,000 scholarships for their junior year and their senior year.
More information is available on UAB’s Joint Admissions website, and inquiries can be made at chooseuab@uab.edu or advising@wallacestate.edu. Scholarship applications will be available on the Financial Aid section of Wallace State’s website soon. Visit www.wallacestate.edu to learn more.
