Wallace State Theatre presenting “Singin’ in the Rain” Nov. 3-6

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — A classic musical from the silver screen will come to life early next month when the Wallace State Community College Theatre Department presents “Singin’ in the Rain.”
The characters of the beloved Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film will take the stage Nov. 3-6 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre, with shows at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 3-5, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Under the direction of Lauren Cantrell Salerno, the cast includes Duke Cleghorn as Don Lockwood; Trey Moody as Cosmo Brown; Julie Newton as Kathy Selden; Hannah Stringer as Lina Lamont; Brad Steele as R.F. Simpson; Tanner Muncey as Roscoe Dexter; Lauren Jones as Zelda Zanders; Laura Richards as Dora Bailey; Whittney Heaton as Olga Mara; Cheyenne Smith as Mary Margaret; Robby Anderson as Rod; Mark-Anthony Jimenez as Production Singer; Patrick Jimenez as Sid Phillips; and Hannah Crider as Miss Dinsmore.
Cast as Dancing Girls and Ensemble cast members are: Cheyenne Smith, Lauren Jones, Laura Richards, Whittney Heaton, Hannah Crider, Haley Johnson, McCoy Cleghorn Other Ensemble members are: Felicia Hyjek and Royce Cleghorn.
The storyline of “Singin’ in the Rain” follows silent movie screen stars Don Lockwod and Lina Lamont as they attempt to make their first talking picture, with Kathy Selden brought in at the suggestion of Cosmo Brown to do voice overs for a lip-synching Lamont.

This fall, Wallace State began the Fine and Performing Arts Academy in partnership with Cullman County Schools. Students in grades 11 and 12 can take courses in art, dance, music, theatre and visual communications, along with their academic courses. They can choose to participate in this program through the high school Wallace State Fast Track program on campus or they can stay at their local high school, coming in late or leaving early to accommodate their Wallace State Fine Arts courses. Homeschool students and students at other schools interested in participating are encouraged to enquire about opportunities.
