Wallace State Lady Lions pick up two wins over weekend; WSCC men fall to Florida-based powers
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s women’s basketball team notched a pair of wins over the weekend in Americus, Ga., defeating Denmark (S.C.) Technical College and Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College.
Sophomore guard Kelsey Houston poured in 17 points off the bench, and Ahziala Wright added 11 points and eight rebounds in Wallace State’s 73-58 victory over Denmark Technical College.
Freshman Joy Sadler scored eight points and collected nine rebounds for the Lady Lions, Gabby Hill scored eight points and Karlie Hudson finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Wallace State (3-1) led 45-29 at the half and 65-36 after the third quarter.
The Lady Lions also cruised past Cape Fear, winning 70-40.
Sophomores Alex Lowery and Morgan Higgins each scored 11 points for Wallace State, Hill had nine points, Hudson finished with seven points and five rebounds, Taylor Hollingsworth scored seven points off the bench and Jemaiya Lee pitched in with six points.
Wallace State held a 38-19 cushion at halftime.
Wallace State’s next game is Wednesday at Volunteer State in Gallatin, Tenn.
Wallace State men lose to Florida-based powers
Chipola College and top-ranked Northwest Florida State College each knocked off the Wallace State men over the weekend.
Wallace State sophomore Jaylen McCoy poured in 19 points behind four 3-pointers in a 69-50 loss to Chipola. Desmain Devane had nine points for Wallace State, while Hunter Davis added six.
Chipola led 33-24 at the half.
Against Northwest Florida State, Wallace State had three players finish with double figures.
Ryshante Ellis had 15 points and five rebounds for the Lions, Rashawn Green finished with 14 points and Josh Hill added 12.
Northwest Florida State, the 2015 NJCAA Division I national champion, shot 65.4 percent from the field. The Raiders were led by Ron Freeman’s 18 points.
Wallace State’s men also play at Volunteer State on Wednesday.
