Wallace State’s Abbi Yeager signs to play golf for Blue Mountain College

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Less than two years ago, Abbi Yeager made history by becoming one of the first signees for the Wallace State’s women’s golf program.
Yeager will also be a significant part of Blue Mountain College history. Yeager, a Fairview native, recently signed a letter of intent to play golf next season for the Mississippi-based Toppers. Blue Mountain is reintroducing its women’s golf program, beginning with the 2017-18 season.
“I’m so excited and blessed to play for Wallace State every day and to also know I’ll be part of a new era at Blue Mountain. It’s an honor to be able to play college golf. I love it,” Yeager said.
Long-time Wallace State golf coach Dan York is thrilled Yeager has the chance to continue her golf career at the four-year level.
“Working with these young ladies and seeing them progress on the golf course as they have an opportunity to earn a degree is priceless,” said York, who coaches both the Wallace State men’s and women’s teams. “Abbi always has a great attitude and works hard. It’s special to see her get this opportunity at Blue Mountain.”
Blue Mountain, located in Blue Mountain, Miss., competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Southern States Conference.
“Abbi should come in and be a strong leader for us. As we’re reestablishing this program, we want to sign a few junior college golfers, and I knew Abbi was exactly what we were looking for the first time I met her,” said Blue Mountain golf coach Kevin Barefield. “We’re excited about Abbi becoming a part of our future.”
Yeager, a sophomore, and the Wallace State’s women’s team wrapped up their inaugural campaign last spring, finishing 12th at the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The women’s team opens the 2017 spring season at the Badger Invitational in Mobile on Feb. 26-28.
“I believe we are going to continue to improve. We have put in a lot of hard work, and this team has a great relationship. We mesh together well,” Yeager said. “I’m excited to see what we can do this season.”
