Wallace State’s women’s basketball team breezes by Faulkner University’s JV

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s women’s basketball team breezed to a 94-53 non-conference victory over Faulkner University’s JV team at Tom Drake Coliseum on Monday night.
Kelsey Houston scored a game-high 16 points for Wallace State, adding four more made 3-pointers to her season total. Houston, a sophomore from Tanner, has drained an Alabama Community College Conference-best 64 treys.
Gabby Hill poured in a career-high 14 points for Wallace State, Joy Sadler added 14 and the Lady Lions (17-6, 3-1 ACCC) pushed their winning streak to four games.
“We are playing quality defense and using our athleticism to our advantage in the full court,” said Wallace State women’s coach Ron Burdette. “The next three weeks for us are huge. Every day has to be a good day. We have three big home conference games coming up and three on the road. It’s going to be exciting to see how we finish.”
Burdette has led the Wallace State women to the ACCC conference title game in four of the previous five seasons.
After facing a slim 11-10 deficit with 4:38 to go in the first quarter on Monday, Wallace State closed the period on an 11-0 surge for a 21-11 advantage.
The Lady Lions pushed their lead to 33-16 with 4:39 remaining before the half on a Janese Richardson jumper and maintained a 42-25 cushion at the half.
Wallace State led 70-42 after the third quarter and pushed its lead to as many as 30 points in the fourth.
Off the Wallace State bench, Richardson and Jemaiya Lee each scored nine points, Taylor Hollingsworth had seven points and Alexis Cooper added six.
For Faulkner’s JV, Rakeema Najiy had 12 points.
Wallace State registered a 114-34 victory over Blue Mountain College’s JV last Friday. Houston and Hollingsworth scored 19 points apiece in the win, Sadler finished with 11, and Lowery and Richardson added 10 points apiece.
Wallace State welcomes Snead State to Tom Drake Coliseum on Thursday. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
