Wallace State’s women’s basketball team closes season at 22-10 after ACCC tournament semifinal loss
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Wallace State’s women’s basketball had its season end Thursday at the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/Region 22 tournament, losing 85-42 to eighth-ranked and top-seeded Shelton State in the semifinals.
Morgan Higgins led Wallace State with 14 points and five rebounds, while Alex Lowery added seven points off the bench. Karlie Hudson, Kelsey Houston and Jasmine Hollis scored five points apiece for the Lady Lions.
Wallace State closes the campaign at 22-10, surpassing the 20-win plateau under coach Ron Burdette for the fifth time in six seasons. The Lady Lions were a win shy of advancing to the ACCC tournament finals for a fifth time under Burdette.
Shelton State (31-2) led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 38-27 by the half. The Lady Bucs led 61-33 at the end of the third stanza, limiting Wallace State to only six points in the period.
It was the final game at Wallace State for Higgins, Houston, Lowery, Hollis, Janese Richardson and Jemaiya Lee.
Houston, a guard from Tanner, led the conference with 87 3-pointers made this season, and averaged a team-high 11.3 points.
Freshman Joy Sadler added 8.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while Higgins averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Wallace State advanced to Thursday’s semifinals after posting a 102-54 quarterfinal victory over Alabama Southern.
