Wallace State men’s golf wins Spring Fling title in Scottsboro; WSCC baseball & softball sweep conference series

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s men’s golf team has earned its first championship this spring. The Lions prevailed in a 17-team field at the Ron Marshall Spring Fling at Goosepond Colony in Scottsboro over the weekend.
The Lions carded an 8-over par 892 over the three-day event, shooting a 303-299-290. The final round of 290 was the lowest tournament team score among the field.
“I’m proud of the guys. This should be a big boost of confidence for us as we continue to approach postseason play,” said Wallace State men’s golf coach Dan York, a NJCAA Hall of Fame coach. “This team has the potential to be a contender in the end, so this finish was an encouraging sign.”
Wallace State freshman Luke Wilson and sophomore Garrett Senia were each named to the All-Tournament team in Scottsboro.
Wilson finished fourth overall by carding a 5-over 221 (75-73-73). Wilson is from Cullman.
Senia completed the tournament with a 6-over 222, shooting a 72-76-74 for a fifth-place finish.
Charley Parvin carded a 9-over 222 (78-77-70) for the Lions, while Brent Borden finished with a 10-over 226 (78-73-75).
Brandon Lacasse rounded out the field for Wallace State, shooting a 233.
Wallace State defeated runner-up Central Alabama by eight strokes. Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) and Walters (Tenn.) State finished tied for third overall with a 40-over 904.
The Lions are back in action on March 26-28 at the Glen Lakes Invitational in Foley.

Dalton Sinquefield’s walk-off single put a bow on Wallace State baseball’s four-game series sweep over Snead State over the weekend. Sinquefield, who finished with a pair of RBIs in the series finale, lifted eighth-ranked Wallace State to a 4-3 victory in extra innings on Saturday.
Wallace State moved to an impressive 24-4 on the season and 4-0 in Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) action. Coach Randy Putman is also inching closer to the 1,000-win plateau with the Lions. The NJCAA Hall of Fame Coach is three wins away from the prestigious milestone.
Peyton Hayes was the winning pitcher in relief in the series finale, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out six.
Kevin Bryant had a double and a pair of RBIs in the win. Cole Collins, Maison Goodwin, Kolby Robinson and Billy Reed each had a single against the Parsons.
Wallace State opened Saturday’s doubleheader with a 6-4 triumph. Sinquefield, Bryant, Austin Triplett and Palmer Ford each had a pair of hits and collected an RBI. Robinson added an RBI single in the deciding four-run sixth inning.
Blake Schilleci earned the win in relief. The Auburn commit pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out four and yielding three hits.
Sophomore Braxton Light recorded his third save by recording four consecutive outs.
In the doubleheader opener in Boaz, the Lions scored 23 runs in two games, winning 12-4 and 11-2.
Sinquefield, Reed and Dalton Cobb each blasted homers in the 12-4 victory. Sinquefield had three hits overall and two RBIs, Reed went 3-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs scored, and Cobb finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Bryant and Cole Collins also had multi-hit games.
Light was the winning pitcher in relief.
Jesse Scott started and allowed two earned runs on five hits in seven strong innings. He struck out eight batters.
In the 11-2 win, Triplett was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Reed had a solo homer, Ford had an RBI double, among two hits, and Collins singled twice and scored twice. Justin Henle contributed an RBI single, Robinson had a single and a pair of RBIs and Sinquefield singled and scored. Sinquefield, Collins and Reed each had a stolen base.
Freshman Blake Rivera (4-0) remained perfect on the mound, allowing two runs and striking out seven over 4 2/3 innings. Schilleci and Heath Olive combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Wallace State continues conference play at home Thursday as Calhoun pays a visit to James C. Bailey Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.

The Lions tallied a pair of walk-off victories in extra innings in a doubleheader sweep over Snead State on Sunday at Bobby McCracken Stadium.
In the opener, Bailee Daugherty scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth, sending Wallace State to a 1-0 win.
In the second game, Abby Connally’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Lions to a 7-6 triumph.
Wallace State (18-11, 4-0 ACCC) is perfect in conference play after two series and has won nine of its last 11 games and 13 of 16 under first-year coach A.J. Daugherty.
Wallace State sophomore ace Brittany Ledbetter pitched with a heavy heart on Sunday after her family lost all of their possessions in a house fire in Tuscaloosa County.
Ledbetter (8-4) persevered through the tragedy and tossed a three-hit gem, punching out 13 batters in the extra-inning contest. Ledbetter has pitched 14 consecutive scoreless innings in conference action.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Brittany’s family during this time. The family lost everything they’ve worked so hard for. We are thankful no one was hurt,” A.J. Daugherty said. “Brittany was lights out against Snead State. Considering all of the exterior things going on right now, softball is an escape for her right now and gives her a sense of normalcy.”
In Sunday’s opener, Karra Elam led off the ninth with a double and Bailee Daugherty pinch ran. Daugherty scored the game-winning run on failed squeeze attempt when the ball trickled away from the Snead State catcher.
Charlee West had two hits, including a double, in the opener and Connally, Erin Whitlock and Tanner Robertson each had a single.
Connally was the hero in the doubleheader finale. She finished with a pair of hits and the game-winning RBI.
Elam finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, Jodie Farnetti had a multi-hit game, Tanner Robertson had an RBI triple, Taylor Beshears doubled and Amber Hammonds and Taylor Stalnaker each had run-scoring singles.
Madison Grant was the winning pitcher in relief for Wallace State. She yielded only one hit over three scoreless innings.
Wallace State hosts Shelton State in a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.
