Wallace State’s Salon and Spa Management program hosts nearly 100 high school students
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s Salon and Spa Management program hosted nearly 100 combined students recently from both the Winston County Career Technical Center in Double Springs and the Cullman Area Technology Academy.
Wallace State’s students performed multiple manicures, pedicures, facials and shampoo and style haircuts on the visitors throughout the week.
“It’s a win-win when the high school students visit. It’s great for recruiting because students can see all we have to offer, and it allows us to build relationships across our service area,” said instructor Sabrina Flanigan. “It also prepares our students for an overwhelming booking they may encounter at a salon one day.”
Interested students within the Salon and Spa Management program also used the week to prepare for the upcoming state SkillsUSA event.
Wallace State has students competing in categories including esthetics, haircuts and makeup. Last year’s competition marked the first time that Wallace State salon and spa management students competed in the event. The state SkillsUSA competition is in mid-April.
Wallace State’s Salon and Spa Management’s doors are open to the public. A men’s haircut is $7, a full style and cut is $9, a hair color is $20, a facial is $7, a pedicure is $10 and a manicure is $7.
