Wallace State Community College participates at ACCS Day Celebration in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, ALA. – Wallace State Community College had students from both the Hanceville and Oneonta campuses and members of its faculty and staff participate at the 2017 Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Day Celebration in Montgomery on Thursday.
The annual event took place at the Alabama State Archives and History Building lawn, where Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics and Vice President Dr. Tomesa Smith were also in attendance. It was the first year Wallace State-Oneonta students were represented after the new campus opened its doors last May.
The ACCS invited all 25 community or technical colleges to celebrate in Montgomery for the third consecutive year in recognition of April being designated as Community College month across the state. Each college promoted their institution in various ways and engaged with students and employees from the sister colleges.
Acting ACCS Chancellor Jimmy Baker addressed the crowd on Thursday, commending each college for the important role they play within their communities and the positive differences they make in students’ lives. Wallace State’s Horticulture/Agricultural Production Department supplied the ferns complementing the podium on the Alabama State Archives and History Building steps.
Wallace State’s contingency was also invited to visit and tour the Statehouse with Senator Paul Bussman, R – Cullman, and with Representatives Randall Shedd, Corey Harbison and Ed Henry. Students had a chance to ask questions and learn more about the legislative process and current issues in this year’s session from them.
