Wallace State volleyball setter Abby Borden named NJCAA Division I Player of the Week

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State setter Abby Borden was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Player of the Week on Wednesday.
Borden, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Arab, earned national recognition after also garnering Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.
Borden leads the ACCC and the NJCAA Division I ranks with 1,122 assists, surpassing her assists total from last season (1,117) when she was a 2^nd-team All-ACCC selection.
Over the last week, Borden has amassed 173 assists and eight blocks. Borden is Wallace State’s first NJCAA Player of the Week since CeCe Hall earned recognition for volleyball in 2015.
“Abby has had a great season so far. Her numbers are extraordinary for a setter, and she’s among the leaders in total aces,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel. “Abby cares a lot about making a good set for her teammates and is a dependable asset for our team.”
Daniel added that Borden is 66 assists away from setting a single-season assists record at Wallace State and 56 shy of the all-time career record.
Wallace State (25-8, 13-0 ACCC) is on the verge of earning its 10^th consecutive ACCC regular season championship after beating Lawson State on the road on Tuesday night. The Lions have three conference matches remaining. They host Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette on Friday at 2 p.m. at Tom Drake Coliseum.
