Wallace State’s Applied Technologies Division hosting 3rd annual Signing Day on Feb. 15

HANCEVILLE, ALA. –  Wallace State Community College is set to host its third annual Career and  Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the James C. Bailey Center 12th floor. Wallace State is joining colleges across the county by celebrating the occasion in acknowledgment of National Career Technical Education (CTE) Month through the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3).
Designed to mirror an athletics signing, the Career and Technical Signing Day allows incoming students in the summer or fall to officially secure their commitment to Wallace State in their respective technical majors.
“Each year the number of people participating has increased significantly, and I expect it grow even more this year,” said Jimmy Hodges, Wallace State’s Dean of Applied Technologies. “We have a lot of talented students preparing to attend our programs.”
The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and each individual signing the letter of intent will receive a Wallace State cap, be treated to lunch and have the opportunity to enjoy a departmental tour. The students’ families and friends are also encouraged to attend.
Wallace State’s Signing Day will be part of a live stream on the NC3 website at http://www.nc3.net/signing-day/
Each student will be recognized individually with their specific Applied Technologies program.
Hodges has been overwhelmed with the positive responses from the previous Signing Day attendees.
“There have been some who said they never thought they would have what it took to be a college student, yet here they were signing to attend Wallace State. We’ve had others who were the first in their family to attend college, and it’s always a special day for them and their families,” Hodges said. “It’s also refreshing to see someone who have may not have excelled academically in high school to all of a sudden be recognized and have an opportunity to celebrate their skills trade.”
The document signed on Feb. 15 will state: “I, the undersigned student, understand that with this Letter of Intent I am occupying one of the very limited training openings in this technology education program and I am committed to successful completion of this program. I understand I will be trained to work in a highly-technical occupation and I will graduate workplace ready.”
If you are student interested in applying for a technical field at Wallace State, Hodges encourages you to call 256.352.8299 for more information, and the program you are interested in will give you a tour and allow you to shadow students within the department.
