WSCC’s men’s golf finishes ACCC Tournament runner-up as Bruce, Lacasse named to All-Tournament team; WSCC tennis begins postseason play
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s men’s golf team finished as the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/Region 22 tournament runner-up this week at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro.
The Lions carded a 15-under par 849 over the two-day event, and Wallace State’s Conner Bruce and Brandon Lacasse each earned All-Tournament honors.
Bruce was the individual runner-up, finishing with a 7-under 209 (72-66-71). The freshman from Mortimer Jordan shot a round-best 66 over the second 18, and never exceeded par throughout, completing his best tournament as a Lion.
Wallace State sophomore Brandon Lacasse cracked the All-Tournament team by finishing tied for fifth with a 5-under 211 (72-70- 69). Lacasse, a PING All-District 4 selection last season as a freshman, is a Central Arkansas commit.
Anthony Lumpkin was seventh overall with a 4-under 212. Cody Maddox finished tied for 13th place for Wallace State with a 3-over 219 (75-74-70). Luke Wilson rounded out the Wallace State field, coming in with a 10-over 226.
The Lions opened the tournament on Monday with a 284 and put together a round-best 281 over the next 18 holes. They capped the event with another 284 on Tuesday.
Central Alabama won the tournament for the second straight season, finishing with a 24-under 840. Calhoun’s Sam Murphy was the tournament’s individual low medalist, carding a 13-under 203.
Wallace State was seeking a fourth title in five seasons. The Lions have won 13 ACCC championships under NJCAA Hall of Fame coach Dan York.
Wallace State continues postseason play on April 21-24 at the NJCAA District 4 Championship in Melbourne, Fla., where the Lions will look to qualify for their 23rd national tournament appearance.

Wallace State’s tennis teams head to Mobile today as the ACCC tennis tournament gets underway on Friday.
The Wallace State men are the defending ACCC champion and enter the tournament with match wins against Coastal Alabama and Gadsden State this week.
In a 7-2 win over Coastal Alabama, Cade Pressnell, Luke Chigwidden, Donny Camp, Andrew Bizilia and Check Freeman each earned singles victories. In doubles, Pressnell and Chigwidden prevailed as did Freeman and Bizilia.
The Lions also notched a 7-2 victory over Gadsden State with Pressnell, Chigwidden, Camp and Freeman earning singles wins. In doubles, Wallace State’s Camp and Nick Hester, Freeman and Austin Leavins, and Pressnell and Chigwidden all won.
Wallace State tennis coach Tony Franklin is confident in both teams heading into Friday’s action.
“I think both teams are playing well at the right time. Our men have a good shot to win it all again this year, and our women are ready for the tough challenge that Central Alabama presents. CACC is up there as one of the top teams in the nation,” Franklin said. “I like the position we are in. I know we’ll give it all we have.”
The ACCC champion and runner-up in each tennis tournament advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Championships. The men’s tournament is May 14-18 in Plano, Texas, while the women’s event is May 6-10 in Waco, Texas.
Wallace State’s women also earned a 9-0 win over Coastal Alabama this week. Kelsi Wilson, Emily Wilson, Emily Graves Mary Ann Wolfe, Tempie Ennis and Molly Whitlock each earned singles victories. The doubles teams of Kelsi Wilson and Ennis, Graves and Wolfe, and Whitlock and Mary Ann Lucas all prevailed.
Sophomores on the women’s team are Kelsi Wilson, Emily Wilson, Graves, Ennis and Whitlock.
Pressnell, Camp and Freeman are the men’s sophomores.
