Wallace State Community College unveils new Center for Teaching and Learning for faculty

HANCEVILLE, ALA. –  Wallace State Community College unveiled a new Center for Teaching and Learning recently with a special ribbon cutting and reception on the second floor of the Bailey Center.
Wallace State’s Center for Teaching and Learning is dedicated to the support and advancement of evidence-based learning and teaching practices and the professional development of all members of the campus teaching community.
Although Wallace State has an excellent instructional faculty, the CTL philosophy is that even the best instructors can improve their teaching and promote student learning by reflecting on their pedagogical practices and adopting cutting-edge teaching techniques.
“This mission pretty much covers everything. We are fortunate that (Wallace State President) Dr. Vicki Karolewics values ongoing professional development for employees to ensure increased student success; therefore, we conduct substantial training, especially for faculty, through the Teaching and Learning Academy, an Instructional Coach, and the Master Teacher Programs,” said Dr. Beth Bownes Johnson, Wallace State’s Dean of Academic Affairs.
Before the CTL unveiling, Wallace State’s newest faculty presented their Capstone projects covering the following topics: Integration of Technology in the Classroom: Teaching with Movies; Mastering Concepts through Progressive Testing; Using Trailers to Increase Student Success and Diagramming for Success: Helping Students Retain Knowledge.
New instructors presenting were Holli Adams, Sharon Horton, Amy Moore, Allen Patterson, Bonnie Bibb, Keith Tolbert, Melissa Landers, Amy Burtram, Lorie Strane and Lynn White.
