Wallace State volleyball ranked 16th in NJCAA Division I preseason poll
HANCEVILLE, ALA. — Wallace State’s volleyball team is ranked 16th in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll, released earlier this week. The Lions are recognized in the Top 20 preseason ranking for the eighth time in 10 years and will seek their 10th consecutive conference championship this season under coach Randy Daniel.
Returning Wallace State sophomores in 2018 are Lexie Riggins, Maya Jones, Alex Wiggins, Courtlyn Barber and Katie Edwards. Madison Turner and McKenzie Boland are sophomore transfers.
Riggins was the ACCC Tournament MVP last season. She was second in the Alabama Community College Conference with 393 kills and the league leader with 160 blocks and a .416 hitting percentage. Jones, a middle hitter from Hoover, was also an ACCC All-Tournament selection.
Wallace State features 10 freshmen on this season’s roster.
Wallace State finished with a 34-10 record last season, capturing its ninth straight ACCC/Region 22 tournament title and 10th consecutive ACCC/Region 22 regular-season championship. The team made its ninth straight trip to the NJCAA Division I national tournament and conference-best 17th overall.
Wallace State opens the regular season on Aug. 24 in Spartanburg, S.C.
Daniel, entering his 12th season with the Lions, has a 404-89 career record at Wallace State. He is the all-time winningest coach in program history.
Kheala Roberts Beck, a WSCC volleyball alum, is a first-year assistant.
