HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Students, faculty, staff and guests at Wallace State Community College will be entertained by the band Blue Water Highway on Thursday, Aug. 30 as the college celebrates the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester.
The Learning Communities committee has arranged for the Texas-based band to play during a Learning Communities Kickoff Block Party in front of the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. The 9:30 a.m. event will include performances by the band, food trucks, club and program fair, and fun and games.
“At the beginning of each semester, we like to host a kickoff to celebrate the new term,” said Lauren Salerno, drama instructor and a member of the Learning Communities committee. “Past events have included concerts and sporting events pitting students against faculty and staff. These events are great ways to welcome students to campus.”
Salerno added students get an opportunity to get acquainted with programs and clubs that Wallace State offers, have a chance to meet other students in a casual atmosphere, and get a taste of culture on campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Learning Communities are courses offered to students, usually in the 9:30 a.m. hour, that offer activities and events out of the classroom. For more information about Wallace State, visit www.wallacestate.edu or call 256.352.8000.
