HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Wallace State Community College Fine and Performing Arts program is beginning the second year of its ArtsKids! Program, adding an additional option for students interested in dance, and all are offered free of charge.
“We are excited to offer ArtsKids! for the second year and to offer it all free of charge,” said Tiffany Richter, director of the Wallace State Singers and Choir. “We are especially excited to add dance to the program, with classes headed up by our new dance instructor Brooke Desnoës.”
ArtsKids! offers four options: SingKids!, BroadwayKids!, StudioKids!, for students in grades 3-8, and DanceKids!, for students in grades 3-6 this fall and in grades 6-8 in the spring. Current Wallace State students will work with ArtsKids! students, with instructors acting as mentors.
SingKids! and DanceKids! will be offered this fall, with SingKids! to be held on Wednesdays from Sept. 26 to Dec. 6 from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. DanceKids! will be held on Tuesdays from Oct. 2 to Nov. 6, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
DanceKids!, StudioKids! and BroadwayKids! will be held during the spring semester, with DanceKids! to be offered for students in grades 6-8 on Tuesdays from Feb. 5 to March 12, StudioKids! to be held on Mondays and Tuesdays Feb. 4 to March 12. BroadwayKids! to be held on Mondays from Jan. 22 to May 7.
SingKids! gives students the opportunity to hone their vocal and dancing skills through participation in a miniature version of the Wallace State Singers music revue group. The ensemble will perform at the Wallace State Music Department’s Christmas Concert.
No experience is necessary to enroll in DanceKids!, which will provide students with basic introductory skills in dance. A lecture and demonstration for friends and family of students will be held at the end of the Fall program for grades 3-6. The Spring program for grades 6-8 will conclude with a brief performance from Coppelia Act II. For questions, contact Brooke Desnoës at 256.352.8153 or brooke.desnoes@wallacestate.edu.
Through BroadwayKids!, students will enhance their acting, singing and dancing skills. They will put their new-founds skills to work by participating in a production near the end of the spring semester.
