Wallace State volleyball closes season with 33-9 record after another national tournament appearance

HANCEVILLE, ALA. — Wallace State volleyball had another impressive season close over the weekend, wrapping up play at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.
Wallace State, seeded No. 14, went toe-to-toe with 11th-seeded Snow (Utah) College in the consolation bracket, falling 25-19, 19-25, 29-27, 18-25, 9-15.
The Lions closed their season with a 33-9 record after making a 10th consecutive NJCAA Division I National Championship appearance and a conference-best 18th overall.
Wallace State advanced to nationals after winning a 10th straight Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) championship and the District L/M title.
Sophomore Alex Wiggins led Wallace State in her final match with the Lions, registering 16 digs and 13 kills. Karlee Hale finished with 13 kills and five digs, while Kaitlyn Doyle added 10 kills. Lexie Riggins had nine kills and seven digs for Wallace State, and Maya Jones added eight kills.
Sophomore McKenzie Boland finished with 47 assists and seven digs, Karmahn Hall had a team-high 16 digs, Madison Turner racked up 10 digs and Alexis Snow added seven.
In Wallace State’s opening match at nationals, the Lions fought third-seeded Polk State as equally as hard, never allowing the Lady Eagles to get comfortable. Wallace State lost in four sets (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 20-25).
Against Polk State, Riggins finished with 16 kills, Wiggins had 10 kills and 10 digs and Hale added 10 kills and seven digs.
Boland finished with 45 assists and 13 digs, Turner had 15 digs and Hall registered 14 digs.
Southern Idaho won the national championship, earning its 12th title.
During her career, Riggins was a two-time ACCC Tournament MVP for Wallace State and was an All-ACCC 1st-team selection this season.
Jones and Boland were each 2nd-team All-ACCC selections this season. Boland led the ACCC in assists.
It was the final Wallace State match for the following sophomores: Riggins, Wiggins, Boland, Jones, Turner, Courtlyn Barber and Katie Edwards.
Wallace State coach Randy Daniel completed his 12th season with the Lions and currently maintains a 437-98 record with the program. He was named the 2018 District L/M Coach of the Year.
